Irvine Welsh

Pikes Hotel in Ibiza have just announced the launch of a unique two day Literary Festival in September 2018. The festival will be an annual event at the legendary boutique hotel, and for 2018 will be headlined by several world-renowned, critically acclaimed names from the film and publishing world including Irvine Welsh and John Niven. Centred around sumptuous evening suppers, author readings and conversation, this spoken-word festival is set to be one of Europe’s most sought-after (and below- the-radar) cultural events every year.

Award-winning author Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting), screen-writer and author John Niven (Kill Your Friends) and Stephen Armstrong (The White Island) will lead the event in the sprawling grounds of the iconic hotel. Other high profile names participating include accomplished authors Matt Trollope (Mr.Pikes: The Story Behind the Ibiza Legend) and Neil Forsyth (San Carlos).

As well as being one of the few places worldwide genuinely steeped in a unique pedigree of rock n roll history, Pikes has proudly been trail-blazing as a true cultural hub of the Island over the past few years.   Today, the hotel represents the original creative, Balearic energy of the island and hosts a raft of cutting-edge art, food and music and popup collaborations and events throughout the Ibiza season. Dawn Hindle Co-Owner of Pikes says ‘’The Pikes Literary Festival is set to become one of the jewels in the Ibizan summer landscape. No-one could be better than Irvine Welsh to launch our music influenced literary festivities’

The literary festival will open on the first day, with a stimulating panel introduction focussed on the participating authors Ibiza memories and experiences. An extended discussion will follow, with Stephen Armstrong about his iconic book THE WHITE ISLAND: The Extraordinary History of the Mediterranean’s Capital of Hedonism. After dinner, an in-depth talk by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh will reveal unique insights into his latest work, as well as opportunities for audience Q and A’s and book-signings.

The second day will focus on how to get published. Matt Trollope and Neil Forsyth will give expert advice on every aspect of the creative writing process with audience interaction throughout.   After supper there will be an inspirational discussion session on his career with one time A&R and author of Kill Your Friends, John Niven, with opportunities for audience participation.

The festival will close on the second evening with an after-party, and an open-mic Spoken Word Event featuring authors, performers, writers and musicians including readings from the spectacular memoirs of Tony Pike himself, original founder of the iconic hotel.
